Here’s to another year, another goal

We’ve all been there.

New Year’s resolutions form and we get excited to take them on. But let’s face the reality. New Year’s resolutions stay just there – in the New Year. It’s why I loathe the term and never make a decision or goal at the start of any year.

The beginning of the year is always a blur; you have celebrations, holidays and usually you’re on a high. It’s so easy to make this year your year…just like every other year. Then reality of life starts to kick in once the honeymoon phase wears off. We dread our life, get stuck in the same old patterns and continue on the embedded patterns of routine that society has expected of us. Work, kids, sports, dance, tutoring, cleaning, eat, sleep, repeat…

What if you just took a step back for a moment and made a list of all the things you really wanted out of life for you? That’s right – for you. Not your kids, partner, family, friends or colleagues. Just you.

Most people forget about themselves and the dreams they have usually leaving them on the back burner of the past scared to redream their dreams like it would be selfish. Well it’s not. Dream it, see it, believe it.

You have the right to live and achieve separate goals than those tied or connected to you from others in some way. You are your own entity and are the only person who can satisfy your drive, passion and happiness.

So write your dreams down where you can see them and at the very least start thinking about which ones you want to do and what they mean to you. It will start you off to long lasting goals and achievements instead of the New Year’s resolution cycle.

People should pursue what they’re passionate about, that will make them happier than pretty much anything else.
